Online Dating Dangers you need to be Aware of

Online dating can be a very rewarding experience, or it can be a disaster. Although you cannot avoid every pitfall of this style of meeting new people you can avoid the more serious ones.

It starts with knowing what online dating dangers are out there. From there you will know what to avoid. Some of the common dangers of online dating include the following:

Online Dating Dangers

• Beware that some people are married and you may not know it. Therefore, it is best to get to know a person slowly. You might also want to ask them if they are married and if they do not give you a straight answer that may be one clue that they are not.

Online Dating

• Some people might sign up to be a part of a dating service just to scam people. One instance is when a woman tells a sob story about needing all this money from a suitor. Of course, the man often gives it because he feels bad for the person. However, in the end he often gets his heart broken and often loses large sums of money.

• Watch out for signs that a person is a predator. He or she may communicate with you using excessive sexual language that is not appropriate for the level of relationship you have. That person might also pressure you to give away personal information about your self you do not yet feel comfortable sharing with the person.

• Beware that some people may not post their real picture, or they may post a picture that is not current. If you find out they have lied on their profile this is a good indication that the person cannot be trusted. You want someone who knows that he or she can be him or herself and does not have to try too hard. More importantly, you want to be with someone who you know you can rely on to tell the truth.

• People often get spammed while participating in dating services. Be careful not to give out your personal e-mail but rather you should just use the secure communication system set up by the dating service.

• You also need to be aware that there are many identity thieves using the Internet today to scam people. Be advised not to give your money to a dating service you may not have ever heard of, or do not give out your credit card or other payment info.

• People might lie about other aspects of their dating profiles besides posting up a picture that is not really them. You might want to watch out for clues that a person may really be older then they are, may not be giving you his or her real name (later on in the online relationship), or they seem a little bit reserved when they talk to you.

You also will want to beware that not everyone who joins an online dating service is seeking long-term companionship. They might just be seeking casual relationships, and not be interested in kids, marriage, and so on.
